ROYAL CANADIAN SEA CADET CORPS RAINBOW

We are the Victoria unit of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, a free program sponsored by the federal government, through the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Navy League of Canada.
WEEKLY AND SUMMER PROGRAMS

Sea cadets train on a weekly basis in our home location and can apply to attend summer training and other fun, free opportunities like international exchanges and working onboard ships, and in some cases get paid while attending.
We have experienced, qualified instructors who lead our cadets and allow our young people to meet their potential in a safe, positive environment, letting them make new friends and try new activities while developing confidence and citizenship. All of our instructors have undergone extensive training and criminal record checks.

SAILING

RAINBOW's sailors are some of the best in Canada. We are very proud of the efforts of our sailing team, and this activity is open to everyone. Many of our cadets participate in sailing regattas, and last year we sent four cadets in the four teams allocated to BC for the NATIONAL SEA CADET REGATTA in Kingston, Ontario as well as sending cadets to the U19 CANADIAN NATIONAL REGATTA . For the last number of years, RAINBOW sailors have been at the top of the national standings in sea cadet sailing. Again, this is a FREE activity, and one of the best things sea cadets has to offer. Many cadets spend every summer on the water sailing and making friends from all over Canada.
BAND

RAINBOW's band performs almost every week and makes up an important part of our ceremonial events. This year, our band placed FIRST of all Sea Cadet bands in BC, winning our Regional Competition and got accolades for achieving the highest overall music marks. Sea Cadet music training is based upon the Royal Conservatory of Music standards and we have a qualified music teacher and other experienced musical staff giving FREE music instruction in our award-winning program. Come see how much fun being in the band can be! Summer courses in music are offered at all levels, from absolute beginner to advanced player.
SEAMANSHIP

RAINBOW's Seamanship team competed in our regional and provincial competitions this year and are one of the best teams in the province. Our cadets are taught how to tie bends and hitches, rig a type of crane using pieces of wood, rope and what is at hand, and of course tie lots and lots of knots.
DRILL TEAM

RAINBOW's Drill team came in FIRST PLACE of all sea cadets at our Regional Competition and has placed in the top three teams provincially against Sea, Army and Air cadets from all over BC. This included a memorized drill sequence requiring concentration and discipline.

TEAMBUILDING & SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

We know how to have a ball! One of the best ways to learn is to have fun while doing it, and at RAINBOW everyone is welcome to join in. Cadets do sports together with the aim of enjoying activities and improving fitness, regardless of how skilled you are or how fit you are when you start. We do weekend trips and day excursions where you can get to know your friends better and make new ones.
MARKSMANSHIP, SUMMER BIATHLON, & ORIENTEERING

We have experienced coaches ready to help you try out some exciting activites. Our cadets have competed in regional and provincial competitions in Marksmanship (target shooting), Summer Biathlon (modelled after an Olympic sport consisting of Marskmanship and Cross- Country) and Orienteering (map and compass use in on-ground courses). Safety is always our highest priority, and our cadets have placed very well in competitions in all of these disciplines.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD PROGRAM

RAINBOW cadets have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program, an international youth program which recognizes Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of achievement and personal growth in the categories of Community Service, Skill Building, Physical Fitness, living and working with others, and undertaking a journey. Find out more about the award program by clicking the link here, and seeing what sea cadets need to do to get the award here.
COMMUNITY SERVICE

Cadets participate in and support a broad range of community initiatives and events.
Previously, RAINBOW members raised over $1500 to help fight cancer in events like the Run For the Cure, as well as participating in other community-minded events.
